Ashley's Rise Junior Morris has been invited to dance at the Open
Morris weekend of Dance in Liverpool, Capital of Culture 2008
from 6th - 8th June. Liverpool is already showing itself to be a
vibrant Capital of Culture and the side are looking forward to
being able to represent Bristol at this event.
Ashley's Rise is looking to raise funds to enable the trip to go
ahead. Please get in touch if you would like the side to dance at
your event for a very reasonable fee, or if you are able to
sponsor any part of the trip.
Children's Day of Dance
The Great Caper is developing links with schools and other
interested parties to ensure that Bristol does not lose it's
Children's Day of Dance which has run for the last 20 years. To
find out how you can help please contact us for a chat.
The Great Caper has worked with South Gloucestershire Council
during 2007. Two schools learnt and performed some Border Morris
as part of the Engage Community Festival 2007 and another school
received a very healthy reception for their part in the Staple
Hill, Christmas on the Hill 2007 despite very wet conditions. We
look forward to further participation with South Gloucestershire
Council.
The first Creating the Leaders
workshop was held in Christchurch, Dorset in 2007 and
was very successful. Course attendees included musicians, Beaver
and Guide leaders, a primary school teacher and dance tutors. All
from the same area, most people were coming together for the
first time.Initial feedback shows that a junior dance side now
has access to more musicians, the primary school has linked in
with both dance tutors and musicians and Beavers will be having
fun with sticks very soon.
